Three Wishes For Derby

Derby City Council wanted to plan for the next 15 years and wanted to know what people's vision would be for the city. So they asked Spiral Arts to create a wishing tree and travel around venues in Derby asking people what their three wishes would be for Derby 2026…

We visited Royal Derby Hospital, Mackworth Library, Sinfin Library, Derby Bus Station, Mickleover Fun Day, Derby Pride Festival, Stockbrook Community Fun Day, Silk Mill Museum, Oakwood Gala, Park Farm Shopping Centre, Market Place Fun Day and The Lighthouse Centre. Phew....

The Wishing Tree certainly turned a few heads...

Long Eaton Brownies - Giant Canvas and Collage

We were commissioned by Long Eaton Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team to make exciting artwork to exhibit in the town’s empty shops with the local Long Eaton Brownie Pack.
We created colourful meadow scenes onto giant canvases.

The brownies were encouraged to look at impressionist painters such as Monet, Van Gogh and Renoir to get ideas and inspiration for their own works of art. They used acrylic paints and collage techniques to produce the canvases.

We worked with a great group of Brownies and the work looked great too.

Many thanks to the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team and the Long Eaton Brownie Pack

First things first

It's been a while since we last blogged. Where did those months go????? We have been busy, so much to say, but first things first......
Thanks to Lucy's dad for sorting us out a website
Wirksworth Festival - we were there, on the trail with.......tepees. Many thanks to the primary schools at Brassington, Bonsall, Carrsington & Hopton and Kirk Ireton for letting us come and work with you on your first day/s of the new school year.
Also thanks to Wirksworth Cof E Infant school for letting us use their grounds at short notice  - a safer option than the skate park we thought. We were sorry that we had to take the tepees away after the weekend........but they had been promised to the other schools.
Each tepee represented a different aspect of the environment  - up in the air, under the ground, deep in the ocean and in the rainforest. We asked the children to think about what it would be like to live in these different environments, what they might, see, do or hear.
We had some amazing suggestions such as "cloud hopping" "sky surfing" "going to school on a dolphin" and living in a treehouse with a slide to get down"
