Allenton Primary to Merril College
All 275 children and the teachers from Allenton Primary School walked all the way to Merrill College yesterday afternoon, taking part in the Community Torch Relay. We rushed across town to see them arriving at Merrill College where they were greeted by a corridor of mini torches into the school.
It was very exciting and we were so pleased to have been there.
We wish we had seen this sight below when they were all standing on the Spider Island bridge.

ITS THE START OF THE COMMUNITY TORCH RELAY
Today is the 1st day of the Community Torch Relay.
For 2 weeks before half term we worked with 30 schools at Derby Silk Mill Museum, making the basic torch structure and working on ideas .......then they went away and put the finishing touches to their own unique torch.
We haven't seen the results until now
They are FABULOUS
Look at Derwent Community School's torch, we love the figures around the bottom and wonderful flames on the top.
Well done!!!

Leon Baptiste @ a Spiral Arts workshop :)
6 of their feeder schools attending.
Working in groups of 3 they had 1hr and 40 minutes to make a torch and I think you will agree looking at the photos below they all did a very good job too :)
Also at some of the workshops we had sporting champions dropping in to chat to the children.
We managed to photograph Leon Baptiste who had brought his Gold Medal - won in the 200metres at the 2010 Commonwealth games in Delhi. He spent a long time chatting to all the children and even let some of them try the medal on which was really amazing.
Thanks Leon I think we all voted you a real champion!!
