Arty Social - Young Carers

We are finally coming to the end of our Arty Social Behaviour Project.

We worked with the Young Carers groups over the last few weeks creating colourful cardboard birds decorated in beautiful patterns.

These will be display in the Orangery in Derby Arboretum in the next couple of months to give important messages to people walking around the park. The birds will be asking people to look after the park and keep it beautiful for many more years.

We also made christmas trees using cardboard and old crisp wrappers.

Summertime Sculpture

We spent 6 weeks over the summer holidays creating a fabulous sculpture to decorate the Orangery in the Derby Arboretum.

We had a brilliant team of Spiral Artists leading and supporting the sessions over the weeks, we made butterflies, birds, ladybirds, dragonflies, flowers and woven branches. The finished artwork looked wonderful, everyone had a great time.

Floral Banner at Derby Cathedral

We were very privileged to be asked to create a floral banner for the Derby Cathedral at the installation of the new Bishop of Derby, Libby Lane. We set to work in the Orangery with help from creative friends to make giant fabric flowers.

Fact & Fabrication - The exhibition launch

We had an amazing turnout at our Fact & Fabrication Exhibition in the Orangery in October. The researchers spoke about the stories they had uncovered and Sarah our musician, played the Shuttle to Clog composition.
It was a great start to our exhibition tour.

LUMINATE Lantern & Light Festival

A wonderful Luminate festival at the start of November, over 200 people came along, the weather was dry, a bit chilly but perfect for a lantern procession.

We were accompanied by violinist, Helen Hitchcock, together with Chip Off The Old Morris team, musicians and dances, and Mick McNaught providing guitar and hurdy-gurdy music in the Orangery.
The Friends of Derby Arboretum helped organise the event, supervising the sculptures, making and serving the hot soup and taking photos. Well done to everyone for a great community event.

We invited artists to create light sculptures for around the park as well as having 100 lanterns to carry in the procession.
