Allenton Primary to Merril College

All 275 children and the teachers from Allenton Primary School walked all the way to Merrill College yesterday afternoon, taking part in the Community Torch Relay. We rushed across town to see them arriving at Merrill College where they were greeted by a corridor of mini torches into the school.
It was very exciting and we were so pleased to have been there.
We wish we had seen this sight below when they were all standing on the Spider Island bridge.

Torch Making Workshops

Have a look at the photo gallery of our torch making workshops at the Silk Mill Museum. We worked with 28 schools, 267 young people and 49 teaching staff. Phew!! We also delivered 5 more torch workshops directly in schools and worked on 4 park events to make mini torches. Click on the link below. http://www.derbycityssp.co.uk/gallery/view/5553/

Leon Baptiste @ a Spiral Arts workshop :)

We ran some mini Olympic torch making workshops  at Derby Moor Community Sports College the other week with pupils from
6 of their feeder schools attending.
Working in groups of 3 they had 1hr and 40 minutes to make a torch and I think you will agree looking at the photos below they all did a very good job too :)
Also at some of the workshops we had sporting champions dropping in to chat to the children.
We managed to photograph Leon Baptiste who had brought his Gold Medal  - won in the 200metres  at the 2010 Commonwealth games in Delhi. He spent a long time chatting to all the children and even let some of them try the medal on which was really amazing.
Thanks Leon I think we all voted you a real champion!!

A hive of industry at the Silk Mill museum

For the last few weeks we have been busy as bees...

sewing...

                                                                           ironing...

and photo transferring flags onto the corners of each banner, making sure we had the right flags on the right banners.

Expert help from friends and family - thanks Kerrie and Ali

As you can see we were still able to do some light cat spotting. Nearly every day this little cat appeared in the museum courtyard.

At the Silk Mill Museum

We are very pleased to have been allowed to work in this space in the Silk Mill museum for a few weeks. Since Easter we have been working on a Cultural Olympiad project involving 17 secondary schools in Derby each making a banner which will be displayed at various events in the year running up to the start of the Olympics.
