Tree Haven Project

Last October we delivered a super project in the Derby Arboretum called Tree Haven. It was based on using natural materials from the park to create artwork and involved working with Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity, students from Derby College and young carers supported by Derby City Council. 

The Spiral Arts team - Jenny, Brendan, Kate, and Mandy led the sessions with volunteer help from Bhee, Leah, Venus and Tina. It was a busy project and we were able to use the brand new Loudon Lodge building in the Arboretum and Grove Lodge to deliver the sessions. 

We held an exhibition of the work over 3 days in early December and were wowed with over 100 people attending. The comments we received were lovely.

Summertime Sculpture

We spent 6 weeks over the summer holidays creating a fabulous sculpture to decorate the Orangery in the Derby Arboretum. 

We had a brilliant team of Spiral Artists leading and supporting the sessions over the weeks, we made butterflies, birds, ladybirds, dragonflies, flowers and woven branches. The finished artwork looked wonderful, everyone had a great time. 

Derby Arboretum Well Dressing

We had a whole week making 5 super well dressings in Grove Lodge. We worked with Rosehill Infants, St James Infants, Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity and many lovely volunteers. The well dressings were launched on the community garden in Derby Arboretum with a great celebration. 

The project was funded by Foundation Derbyshire.

Lost Words Collage - Derby Book Festival

We spent the May Bank Holiday creating a wonderful collage using images from the Lost Words Book as part of Derby Book Festival. Families came and helped create birds, rabbits, weasels, and dandelions. They are being displayed in different libraries around the town.

Wild Wellbeing sessions with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust

We delivered 4 zoom sessions as part of Mental Health Awareness Week funded by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. 

The activities were Wellbeing Mobiles and Re-Wilding the Arboretum Postcards, we had a fun time.

May Fest event in Derby Arboretum

We had such a lovely sunny day for our May Fest celebrations on Derby Arboretum. Spiral Arts decorated the Orangery building with all the artwork created over the 3 zoom sessions and also with lots of hot air balloons from last year's Lark Event. Thank you to Rosehill Infants School for painting the lovely cardboard flowers which we displayed on the veranda of Loudon Lodge
