Family Art Club

We worked with families in half term to create Chinese New Year crafts. As it was Year of the Horse, we made clay horses and horse puppets using cardboard and gold dollies. We had a lovely lunch prepared by Jo in Loudon Lodge. 

The project was kindly funded by Warburtons Funding and Food vouchers from the Coop.

Creative Making workshops

We ran a short series of workshops in January and February for Wellbeing through Art for adults in the Arboretum. The sessions were creating inspiring mini banners, Spring wreaths and Watercolour Chinese horse paintings.

Chinese New Year - Erewash Museum

It is Year of the Rat in the Chinese calendar, we spent 3 days working with schools at Erewash Museum making Fire Cracker Garlands which looked great. We decorated the museum with them. We also made lanterns on the Saturday to use in the procession on Ilkeston Market Place in the evening. It was great event with singing and dancing, and a procession of many different animal lanterns.

Chinese New Year - Year of the Pig

We spent a week working at Erewash Museum in Ilkeston creating artwork for Chinese New Year.
We worked with a number of schools from the local area, Bennerley School, Chaucer School, Stanton Common School and Brackenfield School. We made red strip lanterns and money purses decorated with pig designs.
On the Saturday we had a busy afternoon working with families creating lanterns with cellophane and LED lights for the procession held at Dallimore School in Kirk Hallam. It was a great session with around 100 people attending.

Chinese New Year @ Erewash Museum

We spent the whole week working with schools around Ilkeston to create Chinese Dog Puppets and Chinese lanterns to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

On the day of the procession we had around 150 people come and make cylinder lanterns in the Hayloft at Erewash Museum, it was busy phew!! 

The lanterns looked amazing in the procession and tiger puppet gave a great performance in the market place 

Chinese Dragon Head

We had a busy time at St James Juniors in Derby creating a Dragon Head for their Chinese New Year celebrations.

We worked with 25 children over 2 days to create a stunning dragon head breathing red fire and trailing a superb red printed body.

The children loved parading around the school hall.

The Year Of The Horse

We spent 2 days working with Sawley Infants on a magnificent horse lantern to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

We even put lights inside to make the horse lantern light up.
We also created mini horse lanterns for the procession at Erewash Festival of Lights in Ilkeston.
