Out Of This World - Space Project

This February half term we spent 3 mornings working with a great group of children from Arboretum School.
They came to our building in the Arboretum Park to work on space-themed artwork.
Monday we started creating the space station and alien masks

Tuesday, we painted the sides of the space station and also made small rockets

Wednesday, we put it all together and also made small alien puppets.
The artwork was 'out of this world', what a great project!

Chinese Dragon Head

We had a busy time at St James Juniors in Derby creating a Dragon Head for their Chinese New Year celebrations.

We worked with 25 children over 2 days to create a stunning dragon head breathing red fire and trailing a superb red printed body.

The children loved parading around the school hall.
Well done and Happy New Year!!

The Year Of The Horse

We spent 2 days working with Sawley Infants on a magnificent horse lantern to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

We even put lights inside to make the horse lantern light up.
We also created mini horse lanterns for the procession at Erewash Festival of Lights in Ilkeston.

Grove Lodge Christmas Sculpture

We had a lovely morning in the park creating Christmas decorations with the Create and Relate Group.

We made stars, angels, donkeys and reindeer using card, wire and tissue paper decorations.

Welcome Tree - Arboretum School

We worked with all the year groups at the Arboretum School to create a beautiful 'Welcome' Tree for their main reception area.
We spent 3 days working in the small hall to create a trunk, branches and leaves using a variety of techniques, such as papier mache sculpture and printing with acrylic onto fabric and textured paper.

Here are some of the stages of making the tree.

Arboretum School Arts Award - Batik

Week 3 - Batik
This week the group walked up to the park through the Rosehill Road entrance and past the Orangery up to Grove Lodge.
The technique we used this week was batik to create beautiful stars for the banners.

Each child practised their star drawing onto paper first and then used the tjanting tools to apply the wax to the fabric.
The stars will be appliquéd onto the silk banners.
Adding the fabric inks
Drying the batiks
