Stencilling at the Fire Station

We had another great evening being creative with carers, stencilling with fabric paints.

The community room is a lovely space and is very comfortable and cosy.

Free Arboretum Park Workshops

Got that end of Summer blues feeling? been there done that, spent up!!!
We have the answer....... 
Come along to the family activity workshops we are running  on the Arboretum Park 
No need to book and nothing to pay,just come and be creative, make something to take home.

Venue  - The Orangery, Arboretum Park Derby


Friday, 31st August 1-3pm  - 3D sculpture: Birds and Bees, using papers and recycled materials

Sunday 2nd September 1-3pm - To celebrate the Arboretum Park's Green Flag Award we will be making masks inspired by the Green man.


Saturday 29th September 1-3pm  - Make your very own Shadow puppet and try it out on our puppet theatre before you take it home to entertain your friends and family.

Carers Break No.3

Japanese Stab Stitching on Simple Handmade Books

We had a very industrious workshop this afternoon with a nice group of creative people. 
We brought lots of different types of papers - wrapping paper, wallpaper, decorative serviettes, coloured paper, handmade paper, and marbled paper. We demonstrated how to bind the papers together using a technique called "Japanese stab stitch" which gives a good strong finish. Our next Carers Break workshops are Tuesday 28th August at Nottingham Rd Fire Station, Chaddesden 6-9pm Stencilling Thursday 13th September - Heart of Park building, Arboretum Park, Normanton 12- 3pm Collage If you would like to come along please contact us for further information.
We also drank tea and had a good chat about Derby's cinema's and dance halls of yesteryear.









Accidental Butterflies and Kaleidoscopes

We had a great time at Quad making accidental butterflies, kaleidoscopes and fortune tellers with families, also funny bodies and tissue art pictures with artists, Camilla and Kate.

Batik at the Station

Our 2nd Carers Break workshop was held in the community room at Chaddesden Fire Station.
This time we were painting with hot wax and beautiful batik inks.
It is a lovely space to work with a full view of the engines!!
We had fun trying to close the automatically opening doors when we left though!!

Carers Breaks

We have started our Carer's Breaks workshops at the Arboretum Park.
We had a nice afternoon, chatting and making paper.
We are looking forward to our next workshop tomorrow - 
Batik painting at Chaddesden Fire Station Community Room.

Olympic Banners in Darley Park and Olympic Sculptures in the Orangery


Olympic Banners in Darley Park
We worked with 13 schools to create Olympic figure banners that were displayed in Darley Park. Thank you to all the schools involved. 
Derby Moor, West Park, Landau Forte, Merrill, Arboretum, Reigate, Bemrose, Gayton, Village, St James Federation, Murray Park, Lakeside, and Alvaston Juniors.

Olympic Sculptures in the Orangery

Q. How do you transport 6 life sized Olympic "athletes"?
A. In a Berlingo of course.


Olympic Figures in the Arboretum Park
On Friday we went to St. James Primary and managed to persuade all 6 Olympic figures to get in the back of Jenny's car for a short trip along to the Orangery on the Arboretum Park.
It was a very hot afternoon as we cleared the space for them and put them in an elevated place in front of the windows for all the park users to see.It is a well timed display for the start of the Olympics and the school holidays.
They have caused a lot of interest and debate amongst the passers by.
